Gambia Special is een schitterende excursie die ons brengt naar The Northbank van The Gambia.

We vertrekken ’s ochtend vroeg rond half 8 vanuit ons hotel en rijden richting Banjul. Hier nemen we de FERRY naar Barra. Dit is een spektakel op zich. Dit moet je echt hebben meegemaakt. Je ziet je ogen uit. Alles gaat mee kippen, geiten, ezels en erg veel mensen die de overtocht maken.

Wanneer we in Barra zijn gearriveerd staan de jeeps op ons te wachten.

We gaan eerst op bezoek bij een bakkerij waar de dagelijkse tapalappa’s worden gebakken voor de plaatselijke bevolking. Tapalappa is een soort stokbrood die door de Gambiaanse bevolking massaal wordt gegeten als ontbijt. Het gaat er ouderwets aan toe. U kunt dit proces van broodbakken van dichtbij meemaken.

Daarna rijden we verder en komen aan bij een palmolie plantage. Hier wordt palmolie nog volledig met de hand geproduceerd. Er volgt een interessante uitleg hoe de vruchten tot palmolie worden verwerkt. Dit proces kunt u van begin tot eind meemaken.

We gaan verder op weg en bezoeken een plaatselijke smederij. Hier worden opambachtelijke wijze gereedschappen gemaakt.

We laten de smederij achter ons en rijden verder naar een grote groente-tuin waar voornamelijk de vrouwen het land bewerken. In het droge seizoen worden er verschillende soorten groenten verbouwd. In de regentijd maken de groenten plaats voor de verbouwing van rijst.

Daarna gaan we naar Juffereh waar het Gambiaanse Vrijheidsbeeld van de slavernij tijd staat en gebruiken daar onze lunch.

  

Na een enerverende dagtocht gaan we aan het eind van de middag terug met de Ferry naar Banjul waarna u terug gebracht wordt naar uw hotel.

GAMBIA SPECIAL

Gambia  Special  is  a  wonderful  excursion  that  takes  us  to  the  Northbank  of  The Gambia.  We leave our hotel and drive towards Banjul.  Here we  take the FERRY to Barra. This is a spectacle in itself.  You experience chickens, goats, donkeys, and people who make the crossing. We will first visit a bakery where the daily Tapalappas are baked. Tapalappa is a type of bread that is widely eaten by the Gambian population for breakfast. It is old-fashioned. You will have the chance to see how this bread is baked. Then we drive on and  arrive at a palm oil  plantation. Palm oil is still produced entirely by hand here. An interesting explanation follows how the fruit is processed into palm oil. You can experience this process from start to finish. We continue on our way and visit a local forge. Tools are made here in the traditional way. We leave the forge  behind  us  and  drive  on  to  a  large vegetable  garden  where  mainly  women work.  Different types of vegetables grow during the dry season. In the rainy season, the vegetables make way for the cultivation of rice. Then we go to Juffereh where the Gambian Statue of  Liberty of slavery time stands.

Gambia Special es una maravillosa excursión que nos lleva a la orilla norte de Gambia. Dejamos nuestro hotel y nos dirigimos hacia Banjul. Aquí tomamos el FERRY a Barra. Es un espectáculo en sí mismo. Verás gallinas, cabras, burros y gente que hace la travesía. Primero visitaremos una panadería donde se hornean las Tapalappas diarias. La Tapalappa es un tipo de pan que la población gambiana come mucho para desayunar. Es un pan tradicional. Tendrás la oportunidad de ver cómo se hornea este pan. Luego continuaremos y llegaremos a una plantación de aceite de palma. Aquí todavía se produce aceite de palma completamente a mano. A continuación, se dará una explicación interesante sobre cómo se procesa la fruta para obtener aceite de palma. Podrás experimentar este proceso de principio a fin.
