Wij zijn Henk en Hennie Veenstra en wonen in een klein dorp in Friesland.

In april 2011 bezochten wij voor de eerste keer The Gambia. Wij zijn er achter gekomen dat het in The Gambia erg belangrijk is om met een vertrouwde gids/taxichauffeur op pad te gaan. Maar ja waar en hoe vind je een betrouwbare gids/taxichauffeur. Wij hebben achteraf geluk gehad dat we contact kregen met onze gids Yaya Manneh. Hij zag er keurig uit en dat wekte bij ons zoveel vertrouwen dat we met hem op pad zijn gegaan.

Het bleek een schot in de roos. Yaya is inderdaad een vriendelijke, lieve maar vooral betrouwbare man die erg veel weet te vertellen over zijn land en de cultuur. Je ziet dat hij van zijn land houdt. Met hem kom je ook op plaatsen waar je met de touroperators nooit zult komen. Weg van het toerisme en de geldklopperij van de grote touroperators.

Met Yaya kom je nooit voor onaangename verrassingen te staan zoals kosten achteraf. Alles wordt vooraf duidelijk afgesproken. Op die manier weet je ook precies wat een excursie gaat kosten en wat er allemaal bij inbegrepen is.

Omdat hij naast Engels ook de andere talen van zijn land, zoals Mandinka, Wollof en Fula spreekt, heeft hij een makkelijke ingang bij de bevolking.  Je ziet met hem daarom ook het echte The Gambia.

Yaya heeft inmiddels zijn eigen bedrijf opgestart en is in het bezit van 3 goede en betrouwbare auto’s. Waaronder twee keer een 9-persoons bus Toyota Hi Ice 4 WD. Daarnaast heeft hij de beschikking over een l4 weel drive.  Hij werkt met kleine groepjes van maximaal 8 personen, maar wilt u liever samen met Yaya op pad dan zijn daar ook zeker mogelijkheden voor.

Omdat het bedrijf behoorlijk is doorgegroeid heeft Yaya o.a. Fatou opgeleid in het gidsenwerk. Daarnaast heeft hij meerdere personen  als chauffeur aangenomen. Zij doen inmiddels niet meer onder voor Yaya en zijn zeer geliefd bij onze gasten.

Zelf houden we de vinger aan de pols en hebben regelmatig contact met onze gasten om te vragen hoe zij de excursies hebben ervaren. Nu kan ik alleen maar zeggen dat wij nog nooit klachten hebben gehad en de gasten vol lof zijn over de manier hoe de excursies worden uitgevoerd. Met Yaya zelf hebben we wekelijks meerdere malen contact, zodat wij direct op de hoogte zijn van alle ins en outs. Door dit intensieve contact is Yaya een zoon van ons geworden die we in ons hart hebben gesloten.

Somos Henk y Hennie Veenstra y vivimos en un pequeño pueblo de Frisia. En abril de 2011 visitamos Gambia por primera vez. Descubrimos que es muy importante en Gambia salir con un guía/taxista de confianza. Pero, ¿dónde y cómo encontrar un guía/taxista de confianza? Tuvimos suerte de poder contactar con nuestro guía Yaya Manneh.

Parecía muy pulcro y eso nos dio tanta confianza que salimos con él. Resultó ser un éxito. Yaya es un hombre amable, dulce pero sobre todo fiable que sabe mucho sobre su país y su cultura. Se nota que ama su país. Con él también llegarás a lugares a los que nunca irías con los operadores turísticos. Lejos del turismo y del blanqueo de dinero de los grandes operadores turísticos.

Con Yaya nunca te encontrarás con sorpresas desagradables como los costes posteriores. Todo está claramente acordado de antemano. Nosotros mismos nos mantenemos al día y mantenemos un contacto regular con nuestros huéspedes para preguntarles cómo han vivido las excursiones. Ahora solo puedo decir que nunca hemos tenido ninguna queja y los huéspedes están llenos de elogios por la forma en que se llevan a cabo las excursiones. Mantenemos contacto con Yaya varias veces a la semana, por lo que estamos al tanto de todos los detalles.

Gracias a este contacto intensivo, Yaya se ha convertido en un hijo nuestro al que llevamos en el corazón.
